Eureka Valley/Castro

The vibrant Castro district includes Eureka Valley and Dolores Heights. Victorians and modern buildings share space on residential streets that branch off of bustling Castro Street, home to an eclectic array of shops and cafes. The Castro’s long history of activism and embracing diversity--especially within the LGBT community—dates back to the days when Harvey Milk, known as the Mayor of Castro Street, lived here. In addition to its inclusive spirit, the Castro is famous for great nightlight and cultural attractions, such as the landmark Castro Theatre. BART and MUNI lines run through the district, and it’s also close to the freeway.
