With its old buildings, strings of bright red lanterns, mysterious alleys and colorful shops, Chinatown brims with exotic charm. By day, tourists and locals crowd the sidewalks, but things settle down at night. Though Chinatown feels far away from the modern world, it’s within walking distance of Union Square, the Financial District and other downtown areas. Trolleys and MUNI also serve the neighborhood.
